Yesterday at the Capitol
SB 569 – Sen. Mark Johnson and Rep. David Ray
This bill would, among other things, allow the General Assembly to amend constitutional amendments directly (without a vote of the people). It received a “Do Pass” recommendation from the House State Agencies Committee Tuesday night but failed on the House floor this morning 32 to 54.
SJR 15 – Sen. Jonathan Dismang and Rep. Howard Beaty
SJR 15 passed the House yesterday morning by a vote of 74–21. Click here to view the vote.
This proposed constitutional amendment gives local communities—not the state—a powerful tool to attract new jobs, investment, and redevelopment. Sen. Dismang and Rep. Beaty filed SB 647 today, which will serve as the enabling legislation if SJR 15 is approved by voters in the 2026 General Election. The bill will be reviewed during interim study ahead of the 2027 legislative session.
