C.J. Brown

Southwest Power Pool

C.J. Brown is Sr. Director of System Operations Policy and Performance Support at Southwest Power Pool (SPP), a grid operator responsible for ensuring the affordable and reliable supply of wholesale electricity in a region spanning 14 states in the central U.S. He has more than two decades of experience in the electric utility industry. C.J. oversaw SPP’s grid operations during some of the most challenging conditions in the region’s history, navigating Winter Storms Uri, Elliott, and Gerri and summer seasons with historically high temperatures and electricity use. He has held roles in generation, power marketing, market monitoring and system operations, and in his current role, C.J.’s responsibilities include oversight of real-time operations for SPP’s tariff administration, markets, balancing authority and reliability coordination functions.

C.J. received a bachelor of science degree in applied mathematics/economics from the University of Central Arkansas in 2000, and was certified as a Reliability Coordinator in 2007 by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). He is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting, fishing and kayaking. CJ and his wife Sara have two sons and are active at Friendship Baptist Church in Conway.
