Dr. Russell Jones

Arkansas Tech University

Dr. Russell Jones was born and raised in Eastern Arkansas. He started his college education by attending Phillips County Community College in Helena, followed by attending Arkansas State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and then a Master’s Degree in Information Systems.

After graduating from Arkansas State, he served as a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the DC area and then in Las Vegas. He then continued his studies at the University of Texas system receiving his PhD degree with majors in Computer Science and Accounting.

Dr. Jones accepted a faculty position with Arkansas State University. Administratively, he served as chair of the Accounting Department for four years and online MBA director for six. Dr. Jones has served as a Visiting Professor in China, France, and New Zealand. He has published articles in several academic journals and is the author of three textbooks.

At Arkansas Tech, he served as the Dean of Business and Economic Development for three years. He oversaw programs in accounting, finance, data analytics, marketing, management, agriculture, tourism, and healthcare informatics.

In August of 2023, Dr. Jones assumed the role of Acting President for Arkansas Tech University and was named the permanent president in June of the following year.

He and his wife Jessica, an Occupational Therapist, have two children Riley and Madison who are in the elementary school system here in Russellville.
